Volkkarihuolto offers fast and quality DSG transmission repair for Volkswagen vehicles in Espoo. We have extensive experience in DSG transmission repair and use only original parts.
DSG Clutch Replacement
It should be noted that the clutch can fail due to natural physical wear. This process can only be slowed down by proper vehicle operation. Of course, the clutch can be easily "killed" by aggressive driving. The main symptoms for module replacement are:
- Stiffness and slipping during gear changes
- Loss of acceleration
- Oil traces on the transmission housing
Regarding the "wet" clutch, it is appropriate to talk about repair here, as most often only the friction packs are replaced, not the entire unit. It often makes sense to replace the dual-mass flywheel simultaneously with the clutch replacement, as the service life of these parts is approximately the same.
DSG Mechatronics Repair
Mechatronics (control unit) failure usually occurs due to malfunctions of other transmission elements or irregular/poor quality maintenance. For example, dirty oil can clog solenoids, and a stuck gear selector can cause hydraulics to explode, etc.
- Obvious jerks during gear changes
- Car jerks when starting and accelerating
- Transmission goes into emergency mode and service key lights up on the dashboard
- Transmission no longer shifts gears, etc.
It should also be noted that sometimes it may be wiser to replace the mechatronics with a similar part from another vehicle than to repair it. In this case, mandatory programming is required for this vehicle.
What is DSG?
DSG, derived from the English term Direct Shift Gearbox or German term Direkt Schalt Getriebe, is a dual-clutch automatic transmission. Essentially, in designing the DSG transmission, engineers managed to combine two manual transmissions, with gear shifting performed by a control unit called mechatronics.
Different Types and Models of DSG
Originally, this transmission was developed for the Volkswagen Group by Borg-Warner engineers (DSG-6 DQ250 with "wet" clutch). Later, LUK joined the project, and together they developed and launched into series production the DSG-7 DQ200 transmission with "dry" clutch.
What Elements are Included in DSG Repair?
It should be noted that the VAG dual-clutch transmission (DSG) consists of four main components:
- Mechanical part - transmission. This is the main part of the transmission, consisting of shafts, gears, bearings, gear selectors, etc.
- Clutch. This component is responsible for transmitting torque from the engine to the transmission.
- Mechatronics. These are the electrohydraulic "brains" of the DSG. This component receives information from various sensors and controls gear shifting and the operation of the entire transmission.
- Dual-mass flywheel, whose function is to transmit power from the engine to the clutch.
